Zia Hatch Green Chile Apple Fritters
Is there a better treat than an Apple Fritter from your local bakery? Now you make them easily at home and provide some delicious comfort to your mornings and weekends.
Ingredients:
For the Fritters:
- 1/2 jar Zia Hatch Green Chile, strained
- 2 cups all purpose flour
- 1/4 cup Sugar
- 2 Apples, peeled, cored, and diced
- 2 Eggs
- 1/2 tsp Salt
- 1 1/2 - 2 tsp Cinnamon, ground
- 1/3 cup Milk
- 2 tsp Baking Powder
- 3 tbsp Applesauce (optional, it will provide more apple flavor and provide more of a jelly type filling for inside of the fritters)
- High heat frying oil such as Canola
For the Glaze:
- 2 cups Powdered Sugar
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1/2 tsp Vanilla Extract
Directions:
- In a large bowl, whisk together the dry ingredients (flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon). In a separate bowl, make the glaze by whisking together powdered sugar, milk and vanilla extract.
- In the large bowl, make a well in the middle and add 1/3 cup milk, eggs and applesauce (if you choose to use it) and mix together until combined. Add in the diced apples and strained Zia Hatch Green Chile and mix together. If dough is too wet, feel free to add a bit more flour. Once mixed, pre form the dough into somewhat flat portions, around 1/3 cup of dough each.
- Heat canola oil in a large frying pot or Dutch Oven to about 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Once hot, fry each portion of dough until golden brown on both sides.
- Once golden brown, immediately dip and cover all sides in the glaze.
- Let sit on a wire rack to cool down and dry. Repeat process until all dough portions are fried.
- Let cool to room temperature and enjoy!
