Hatch Green Chile Beer Battered Vidalia Onion Rings
Zia Hatch Green Chile Beer Battered Vidalia Onion Rings
What's better than a platter of hot beer battered onion rings? The answer is beer battered onion rings that have notes of Hatch Green Chile.
For best results we recommend using Vidalia Onions and a full (or close to) jar of our Hatch Green Chile.
Ingredients:
- Vidalia Onions or Sweet Yellow Onions (each medium sized onion makes about 8 or so onion rings)
- 1/2 - Full Jar Zia Hatch Green Chile, strained (depending on how subtle you want the Hatch Green Chile flavor)
- 2 cups Flour
- 1-2 cans 12oz Beer of choice (the more of our chile you use the more of the second can of beer you will need)
- Canola or other High Heat Oil for deep frying
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Condiment to dip in (optional)
Directions:
- Peel the onions, cut off the stem and root, and chop them into thirds (be sure to chop them the same direction you chop the stem and root to leave the rings of the onion intact), pushing out the rings from each third. Set aside.
- In a blender or larger food processor, add Zia Hatch Chile and one 12oz can of beer and puree until smooth and combined.
- Combine beer mixture with flour, salt and pepper in a large bowl or dish and whisk together to make the batter. If dry and lumpy, pour as much as you need from the second can of beer and whisk until the batter is smooth and "creamy" but not too watery.
- Heat oil in a frying safe pot until it is hot enough to fry in (around 350 degrees Fahrenheit).
- Dip each onion ring in the batter and make sure it is coated evenly. Once coated, place in the oil and fry until the batter becomes golden brown. Remove and let cool to room temperature.
- Repeat the process until all your onion rings are fried. Serve once cool enough to eat and enjoy!
